Opening Doors Through Technology at White Bear First Nation

Nick Helliwell from Rising Above Ministries recently sent us a note after partnering with Computers for Success Saskatchewan to help support students at White Bear First Nations Education Complex.

I’ve included his note below because this incredible community of donors, partners, and supporters is part of this impact too.

Stories like this remind us that access to technology is about more than devices — it’s about opportunity, education, connection, and confidence for students preparing for their next steps.

Thanks to donated computers and the support of our community partners and donors, more students across Saskatchewan are able to access the tools they need to learn, grow, and succeed. This work only happens because of people who choose to support digital inclusion in our communities.

“My name is Nick Helliwell and I am the leader of Rising Above Ministries, Regina Discipleship Project.

Earlier this year, we received over 40 laptop computers from your organization and distributed them to all the post-secondary and graduating grade 12 students of Whitebear First Nations Education Complex.

In my comments to the students at the presentation, I noted that, ‘if education is the new Buffalo, then those laptops represent the new Eagle feathers, because in today’s world, you cannot be successful without accessible personal technology.’

I want to offer our sincere gratitude, for allowing us to partner with you to give these students the tools they need to succeed.

We at the Regina Discipleship Project, whoheartedly agree that your work and dedication is changing lives.

“From all of us at Regina Discipleship Project, and the students of Whitebear First Nation, I want to say teniki, miigwech — ‘thank you for the gift that you’ve given.’”

Every computer donated, refurbished, and distributed through Computers for Success Saskatchewan represents an opportunity for someone in our community. Whether it’s helping a student prepare for post-secondary education, supporting adult learners, or increasing digital access in underserved communities, these partnerships create real and lasting impact across Saskatchewan.

We’re grateful to organizations like Rising Above Ministries and White Bear First Nations Education Complex for partnering with us to help make technology more accessible for students.

If you would like to support this work, you can help by donating used technology, making a financial gift, or sharing our mission with others. Together, we can continue creating opportunities for learners and communities across Saskatchewan.
