From Homework to Graduation: The Power of Digital Access

Can a student fully participate in school today without a computer?
From elementary classrooms to university lecture halls, learning depends on digital access. Research, assignments, communication with teachers, online platforms — it all requires a device. Without one, even the most motivated student faces barriers.
When Learning Depends on Access
Across Saskatchewan, many families simply cannot afford a computer at home.
For some low-income families, homeschooling is the best or only option for their child. But homeschooling without a computer makes learning much harder. Research, online curriculum, communication with teachers, it all requires digital access.
Through Computers for Schools+ Saskatchewan, families in this situation can receive a refurbished computer for education. That device becomes more than a machine. It becomes:
- A classroom
- A research tool
- A connection to teachers
- A pathway to graduation
We also work with school divisions that do not have the budget to purchase or lease enough computers for their students. Instead of going without, schools can receive refurbished equipment from us.
Some schools go even further. They take the computers we provide and loan them directly to low-income families so students can complete homework at home. That means children don’t need to fall behind because there’s no device on the kitchen table.
A Story We Won’t Forget
A couple of years ago, we met a 16-year-old student who was no longer living at home. Without a computer of their own, they had to walk to the public library every day just to complete homework.
Imagine trying to finish assignments before the library closes. Imagine not being able to study when you need to.
Access to a computer may seem small, but for that student, it meant stability, dignity, and the ability to keep up with school.
Supporting Education Across Saskatchewan
From Regina to Saskatoon and in communities across the province, Computers for Schools helps:
- Elementary students learning basic digital skills
- High school students researching and writing assignments
- University and adult learners completing coursework
- Homeschool families building supportive learning environments
When businesses or individuals donate equipment, our team refurbishes it. Then those computers go right back into the community — into schools, nonprofits, libraries, shelters, and homes.
It’s a cycle of opportunity.
Access to education should not depend on income. Together, we can help make sure every student has the tools they need to learn, grow, and succeed.
If you believe every student in Saskatchewan deserves access to a computer for learning, you can help by making a donation today.
