Your Old Tech Can Open New Doors Across Saskatchewan

Your Old Tech Can Open New Doors Across Saskatchewan

June 18, 2026 News 0

Many of us have old technology tucked away in a closet, drawer, storage room, or office. A laptop that was replaced a few years ago. A smartphone that still works but no longer gets used. A stack of computer equipment waiting for “someday.”

What if those devices could help someone learn, work, connect, or build new skills?

At Computers for Success, donated technology is given a second life. Through our refurbishment programs, computers and devices are prepared for reuse and distributed to schools, libraries, nonprofits, community organizations, and individuals who need access to technology.

Every donated device has the potential to create new opportunities right here in Saskatchewan.

More Than a Computer

Access to technology has become essential for education, employment, communication, and everyday life.

A refurbished computer can help a student complete assignments, support an adult learner taking courses, assist a nonprofit serving the community, or provide access to online services that many people rely on every day.

At the same time, donated equipment helps reduce electronic waste by keeping usable technology in circulation longer.

It’s a practical way to support both people and the environment.

Smartphones Needed

Many people are surprised to learn that Computers for Success accepts more than desktop computers and laptops.

We are currently looking for donated smartphones, along with other technology that can be refurbished and reused.

If you have a smartphone collecting dust in a drawer, consider donating it instead. A device you no longer need could become an important tool for someone else.

What Can You Donate?

We welcome a wide range of technology donations, including:

  • Desktop computers
  • Laptops
  • Smartphones
  • Tablets
  • Monitors
  • Computer accessories
  • Networking equipment
  • Surplus business technology

Not sure whether your equipment can be reused?

Donate it anyway.

If a device cannot be refurbished, we ensure it is recycled responsibly through approved recycling processes, helping keep electronic waste out of Saskatchewan landfills.

Businesses Can Make a Bigger Impact

Technology donations are not just for individuals.

Many businesses regularly replace computers, laptops, mobile devices, and other equipment. Instead of storing outdated technology or sending it directly for recycling, those devices may be able to support learners and community organizations across Saskatchewan.

That’s why we’re encouraging business leaders to participate in the Saskatchewan CEO Challenge.

The challenge invites CEOs and business leaders to rally their organizations, donate eligible technology, and help increase access to digital tools throughout the province.

By participating, businesses can support digital inclusion, environmental sustainability, and community development—all through equipment they may already be planning to replace.

Help Spread the Word

Even if you don’t have technology to donate right now, you can still help.

Tell your friends, family members, coworkers, and community networks that Computers for Success accepts equipment donations. Speak with your company’s IT department and ask what happens to old equipment.

Many people simply don’t realize their old devices still have value.

Together, we can keep technology working longer, reduce e-waste, create opportunities for young people to gain technical skills, and help more Saskatchewan residents access the digital tools they need.

If you have technology to donate, we’d love to hear from you.
